When Jesus called His disciples, what He first gave them was fellowship with Himself. During this fellowship, He taught them a lot about this new Kingdom and the new way they had signed up for. Power was not the first thing He gave them.
In the same vein, when people come to Christ, fellowship with the Master and the way of life of Christ should be the first thing that should be catered to. The end goal of this is that we become like Jesus Christ in nature and, of course, conduct.
Dear believer, the old man and the works of the flesh (which we many times term “weakness”) have to be dealt with. The old man and the old lifestyle we do not address will be the door for the enemy to orchestrate our downfall, even though we carry power and anointing.
Therefore, beyond seeking power, we must seek that our person be conformed to Christ daily till we see His face.
When we are conformed to Christ as believers, there are signs that will follow us according to Mark 16:15-18. This is a reminder that the first thing salvation seeks to do for us is to restore us to fellowship with God and make the nature of God alive in us again, as before the Fall.
This is a plain reality that any believer should embrace. It is not for us to keep seeking that the brethren will accommodate the old nature that is still finding free expression in our lives.
Whether we like it or not, every Christian is measured by a standard, and that standard is Christ Jesus. If you are measuring yourself by anyone else apart from Christ, you have not started.
This is a call to examine ourselves. Take a pause and pray. You have to measure your life by Christ. Yes, we can’t do it on our own. He is willing to help us.
