The story in 1 Kings 3:16–28 remains revelational about how the enemy thinks. Can you imagine? The woman with the dead child didn’t necessarily want the living child; she just wanted the other woman to become bereaved like herself. 1 Kgs. 3:26b — “…But the other said, ‘Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.'” That’s purely the nature of a wicked person.
Wicked people don’t necessarily need what you have; they are just not happy that you have it, and they want it destroyed. Once it’s destroyed and you are like them, they are satisfied.
Isn’t that who the devil really is? John 10:10 makes us understand that his aim is just to steal, to kill, and to destroy, not to have what you have!
Dear Christian couple, the devil doesn’t need your marriage; he just wants it destroyed. That’s why the strange man/woman he weaponises against your marriage is not someone who ordinarily would be fit for the kind of destiny you carry and the kind of life you’ll want to build. They are not necessarily people who want to build your kind of God-centered journey—they are really not ready for that. They are distractors and time-wasters. They are just to fulfill the ministry of the devil—to destroy anything good.
The devil is an unfortunate being who wants everyone to become unfortunate like him.
If you are enjoying a good marriage, you are a target for the enemy! Cover your spouse daily in prayers. Mount the angels of the Lord around your territory. Your spouse might be a good person; that doesn’t concern the devil. In fact, he is interested in tempting good people. He did so to Jesus.
One thing is sure: the devil is eyeing every Christian marriage and is seeking to destroy it. Don’t be deceived; the devil is not after the marriages of unbelievers, he is after those of believers. The earlier we understand it, the better.
That’s why unity, openness, honouring of God’s Word, and prayers should never be missing in any Christian marriage.
